The big trend that stood out in holiday 2011-and which has continued into 2012-is the surge in mobile device usage for researching and purchasing goods. Sales over smartphones and tablets more than doubled and are continuing to rise in spring 2012, up to a remarkable 13 percent. Meanwhile, the mobile percentage of site traffic leapt three-fold to 18 percent and appears likely to break 20 percent by the holiday season.
