Filling The SharePoint Workflow Gaps

By: K2

Microsoft SharePoint 2010 and SharePoint 2013 workflows are a powerful way to share information, collaborate on projects and automate business processes. Yet inherent limitations in the SharePoint workflow often force users to look for third-party applications to extend SharePoint workflow functionality. Organizations need sophisticated, reliable SharePoint workflow apps with advanced capabilities, such as flexible workflow outcomes beyond the simple approve or decline scenario, rich and flexible forms that support hand-held devices, easy integration with SharePoint data on other sites and farms, easy integration with external line-of-business systems, and more advanced error reporting and recovery options. Unfortunately, SharePoint does not offer any of this functionality out of the box, and when working in a cloud-hosted SharePoint environment, customization options are limited due to the removal of server side code.

This paper addresses key workflow limitations in SharePoint 2013 and SharePoint 2010 and what to consider when looking for a third-party product, so you can quickly and easily build the SharePoint workflow apps you need without the challenges of custom code.
