Just as Amazon Web Services (AWS) has transformed IT infrastructure to something that can be delivered on demand, scalably, quickly, and cost-effectively, Amazon Redshift is doing the same for data warehousing and big data analytics. Redshift offers a massively parallel columnar data store that can be spun up in just a few minutes to deal with billions of rows of data at a cost of just a few cents an hour. It’s designed for speed and ease of use — but to realize all of its potential benefits, organizations still have to configure Redshift for the demands of their particular applications. Whether you’ve been using Redshift for a while, have just implemented it, or are still evaluating it as one of many cloud-based data warehouse and business analytics technology options, your organization needs to understand how to configure it to ensure it delivers the right balance of performance, cost, and scalability for your particular usage scenarios. Since starting to work with this technology

In the PC era, employees operated from within a well defined enterprise IT perimeter and passwords were sufficient to establish user trust. However, in today’s mobile-cloud environment, the enterprise perimeter has dissolved and business information is available to users on a variety of endpoints, apps, services, networks, locations. In this dynamic access environment, organizations need a different approach to security that is able to: • Establish user trust using multiple factor authentication • Correlate user trust with other factors such as endpoint, app, network, and more • Apply adaptive, risk-based policies that match the user’s environment

Integrated on-premises solutions offer tight control and flexibility, but can be quickly overwhelmed by a large volumetric attack. Managed cloudbased services deliver protection from those largeattacks, but can be expensive if used for all traffic, all the time. By using a combination of on-premises security devices and a cloud-based scrubbing service to handle volumetric attacks, organizations maintain control, while spinning up cloud-protection services as needed to handle the largest volumetric floods.

More than ever, businesses are considering a cloud solution for their enterprise resource planning (ERP) deployment over an on-premises system. Cloud technology appeals to these companies because updates and fixes occur automatically with little or no effort from internal IT staff, and because cloud-based solutions provide access to real-time data from anywhere. Employees want tools that make it easier for them to complete everyday tasks and make informed decisions that help the business grow. Aberdeen’s research report, “Top Performers Know It’s Time to Migrate to Cloud ERP: Here’s Why and How,” uncovers the reasons successful companies are choosing cloud over on-premises ERP models. Download this report from Aberdeen Group and discover the compelling reasons more companies are choosing the cloud for their ERP platform.

IDC’s research has shown the movement of most IT workloads to the cloud in the coming years. Yet, with all the talk about enterprises moving to the cloud, some of them still wonder if such a move is really cost effective and what business benefits may result. While the answers to such questions vary from workload to workload, one area attracting particular attention is that of the data warehouse. Many enterprises have substantial investments in data warehousing, with an ongoing cost to managing that resource in terms of software licensing, maintenance fees, operational costs, and hardware. Can it make sense to move to a cloud-based alternative? What are the costs and benefits? How soon can such a move pay itself off? Download now to find out more.

At its Build conference in May, Microsoft took the wraps off Cosmos DB, the new incarnation of its existing cloud-based Azure DocumentDB NoSQL database. With a nod to the dramatic, Microsoft terms Cosmos DB as its biggest database bet since SQL Server; it is positioning it as its flagship cloud database, suited for use cases ranging from security and fraud detection, to IoT (consumer and industrial), personalization, e-commerce, gaming, social networks, chats, messaging, bots, oil and gas recovery and refining, and smart utility grids. Cosmos DB is a good example of how cloud platform providers are rethinking databases for scalable, elastic environments and commodity infrastructure. The platform that is most comparable is Google Cloud Spanner, but each of these databases is engineered for different purposes: Cosmos DB as a globally distributed operational database and Spanner as a globally distributed SQL-supporting OLTP database. The highlights of Cosmos DB include its flexibility in

Cloud computing has ushered in a golden era for software companies. The cloud’s low barrier to entry allows creativity to flourish, especially for software developers who are creating applications directly on cloud-based infrastructure. Cloud-based infrastructure enables developers to do what they love: solve business problems and bring innovative new ideas to life, using their choice of tools. In a Software as a Service (SaaS) model, applications can easily be deployed to a cloud service, and delivered to clients who appreciate the ease of access and low cost. The cloud model relieves the developer and the enterprise IT professional from the burden of managing or maintaining capital-intense infrastructure. But the cloud’s low barrier to entry also allows competing software providers to enter the market every day, from every sector. Independent software vendors, or ISVs, are pressured by increased competition to deliver their applications faster, with greater functionality and ease of
