The EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) became enforceable on May 25, 2018, and privacy laws and regulations around the globe continue to evolve and expand. Most organizations have invested, and continue to invest, in people, processes, technology, and policies to meet customer privacy requirements and avoid significant fines and other penalties. In addition, data breaches continue to expose the personal information of millions of people, and organizations are concerned about the products they buy, services they use, people they employ, and with whom they partner and do business with generally.

For advanced signaling over high-loss channels, designs today are using equalization and several new measurement methods to evaluate the performance of the link. Both simulation and measurement tools support equalization and the new measurement methods, but correlation of results throughout the design flow is unclear. In this paper a high performance equalizing serial data link is measured and the performance is compared to that predicted by simulation. Then, the differences between simulation and measurements are discussed as well as methods to correlate the two.

Virtualization has without doubt enabled IT organizations to obtain maximum efficiency from their physical hardware, but virtualization has also increased the complexity these organizations have to manage, and that includes data protection. This paper discusses some of the hidden complexities virtualization introduces to backup and recovery requirements, and the challenges created when backup involves a combination of physical servers and virtual machines. It also discusses ways that backup and recovery processes can be simplified by avoiding point solutions.

Unstructured data has exploded in volume over the past decade. Unstructured data, media files and other data can be created just about anywhere on the planet using almost any smart device available today. As the amount of unstructured data grows exponentially, customers using this data need to be able to take advantage of the right storage solutions to support all of their file and object data requirements. IBM® recently added a new storage system to their Spectrum product family, IBM Spectrum Network Attached Storage (NAS). IBM Spectrum NAS adds another software-defined file storage system to IBM’s current unstructured data storage solutions, IBM Spectrum Scale™ and IBM Cloud Object Storage (COS). Below, we will discuss the three systems and supply some guidance on when and where to use each of them.

Today's data centers are embarking down a path in which "old world" business, technology, and facility metrics are being pushed aside in order to provide unparalleled service delivery capabilities, processes, and methodologies. The expectations derived from today’s high-density technology deployments are driving service delivery models to extremes with very high service delivery capabilities adopted as baseline requirements within today’s stringent business models. Part of the "revolution" that is driving today's data center modeling to unprecedented high performance and efficiency levels is the fact that computer processing advances with regard to high-performance and smaller footprints have truly countered each other.

NPMD solutions are typically not directly involved in the actual card cardholder transaction. However, given that many can potentially capture and transmit cardholder data they must be viewed as an integral part of a business’ PCI DSS compliance strategy, especially when investigating data breaches for the purposes of reporting or remediation. Therefore, beyond satisfying your service delivery monitoring and troubleshooting requirements, be sure to verify your NPMD solution protects cardholder data and aids your efforts in PCI DSS compliance.

Documents are an integral component to the successful operation of an organization. Whether in hardcopy or digital form, they enable the communication, transaction, and recording of business-critical information. To ensure documents are used effectively, organizations are encouraged to continually evaluate and improve surrounding workflows. This may involve automating elements of document creation, securing the transfer and storage of information, and/or simplifying the retrieval of records and the data contained within. These types of enhancements can save time, money, and frustration. This white paper will discuss top trends and requirements in the optimization of document-related business processes as well as general technology infrastructures for document management. It will also address how some office technology vendors have reacted to these trends to guide their design and development of products, solutions, and services.

If your company stores or processes credit card information, you must be able to demonstrate compliance with the Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standards (DSS). These standards include requirements for security management, policies, procedures, network architecture, design, and other critical protective measures. They also include one very prescriptive requirement:  Section 6.6 mandates that organizations secure all Web applications by conducting a code review or installing an application layer firewall. Companies have had a very difficult time passing the other parts of Section 6 and they have experienced a rising number of data breaches. Unless companies take 6.6 seriously, PCI compliance failure rates, and data breaches, will continue to grow.  Read this whitepaper to gain an overview of best practices to pass Section 6.6 and an understanding of the technology available to you.

Engagement with customers online has evolved from novelty to necessity, with an estimated $202 billion spent in 2011 and projected 10% growth to $327 billion in 2016, according to Forrester Research. Businesses are maneuvering to connect with the growing pool of online customers, but the move to eCommerce brings new security risks with the exchange of sensitive consumer information, including cardholder data and personally identifiable information that can enable identity theft. At stake is reputation of brand, ongoing access to merchant credit lines, and substantial penalties and remediation in the event of a breach. This white paper elucidates the aspects of PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards) compliance that must be considered when choosing a secure environment for servers involved in eCommerce. Whether deciding to outsource or keep data hosting in-house, any company collecting, storing or transmitting customer cardholder data needs to be compliant, and this document helps pinpoint the specific concerns and standards a company should be aware of when choosing how to keep their data secure. Understanding requirements and best practices for security policies and procedures, physical safeguards, and security technologies is essential to establishing cardholder data security and meeting QSA and SAQ audit requirements.
