"The fast pace of innovation demanded by today’s digital businesses challenges traditional processes for the deployment and governance of application delivery and supporting infrastructure. To address the increased pace of change, many organizations are transforming by adopting DevOps: a set of practices which employs continuous integration processes, breaking down the silos between development and operations teams. As cycle times accelerate, and development teams adopt more Agile delivery methodologies, the traditional model for application security can be a drag on the speed and agility inherent in a continuous integration process. This creates a natural friction. Security teams can be perceived as slowing down or blocking delivery. At the same time, however, the apps are exposed to significant threats. The goal of continuous integration is to deliver more frequent releases with more new capabilities to market, faster. It’s all about speed."

The current trend in manufacturing is towards tailor-made products in smaller lots with shorter delivery times. This change may lead to frequent production modifications resulting in increased machine downtime, higher production cost, product waste—and the need to rework faulty products. To satisfy the customer demand behind this trend, manufacturers must move quickly to new production models. Quality assurance is the key area that IT must support. At the same time, the traceability of products becomes central to compliance as well as quality. Traceability can be achieved by interconnecting data sources across the factory, analyzing historical and streaming data for insights, and taking immediate action to control the entire end-to-end process. Doing so can lead to noticeable cost reductions, and gains in efficiency, process reliability, and speed of new product delivery. Additionally, analytics helps manufacturers find the best setups for machinery.

Envision this situation at a growing bank. Its competitive landscape demands an agile response to evolving customer needs. Fortunately, analytically minded professionals in different divisions are seeing results that positively affect the bottom line. • A data scientist in the business development team analyzes data to create customized • experiences for premium customers. • A digital marketer tracks and influences the customer journey for prospective • mortgage customers. • A risk analyst builds risk models for the bank’s loan portfolios. • A data analyst examines data about local customers. • A technical architect defines a new system to protect bank data from internal and • external cyberthreats. • An application developer builds a new mobile app for online customer portfolio • management. Between them, these employees might be using more than a dozen packages for analytics and data management.

Software development has evolved from rigid waterfall methodologies to more streamlined approaches, like Agile and more recently DevOps. This evolution has taken place in large part to shorten development life cycles and meet increased business demands. Today, businesses of all sizes have built an advantage by implementing a DevOps culture and processes, which break down silos between development and operations, allowing organizations to create better software faster. As organizations implement DevOps on Amazon Web Services (AWS), they need to understand the security implications. The AWS Shared Responsibility Model makes clear that AWS secures what’s “on the cloud,” while the customer is responsible for securing their assets “in the cloud.” When AWS customers go about securing their DevOps environments, they need to do so in a way that provides robust protection without limiting developer agility.

Enterprise IT is changing. It’s evolving from a rigid, static, manually configured and managed architecture to one where connectivity is dynamic, application services are on demand, and processes are automated. Enterprise networking is evolving along with IT. This has been evident in the past several years in initiatives such as enterprise digitization and as-a-service consumption models, as well as their enablers, including BYOD, IoT and cloud. Add to this, all of the security implications of each initiative. The evolution of IT requires a network that evolves along with IT’s changing requirements – a network that continuously adapts to ever-changing security threats, and evolving digitization, mobility, IoT and cloud requirements.

Most IT professionals today recognize that enterprise IT will be hybrid in the future. To provide the optimal foundation for each workload being deployed, the hybrid IT environment will include cloud-based infrastructures—from multiple providers—co-existing alongside infrastructure within the enterprise data center or a hosted environment. But not all hyperconverged solutions yield the same results. The right hyperconverged infrastructure can meet your IT needs both today and well into the future. In this paper, we will talk about where your data center needs to be in the next five years to meet changing business demands, and how the roles of IT professionals will evolve. We will also review “hyperconvergence” models, and how they can best meet your IT needs both today and in the future, as well as the benefits you can expect along the way. Finally, we discuss what to look for in the right hyperconverged provider, who will position your IT department for success.

In a market where compute and storage resources can be bought on demand with a credit card, vendors of on-premises hardware are seeking to tip the scales in their favor with ‘cloud-like’ pricing models that eliminate the need to commit capital to new platforms. At Dell EMC World in May, Dell Financial Services (DFS) rolled out Cloud Flex for HCI (hyperconverged infrastructure), part of the company’s push to evangelize the start-small-and-scale-up virtues of HCI technology. Cloud Flex lets customers acquire equipment on an all-opex basis, with no up-front product cost, steady monthly payments that reduce by up to 30% annually, and the ability to turn in equipment any time after 12 months without penalty. It’s part of a series of moves by Dell EMC meant to ease the financial risk of sticking with on-premises infrastructure in a cloud-enabled world

Cloud computing adoption continues to expand as the overall benefits of cloud (cost efficiency, self-service, and IT standardization) are becoming more broadly recognized. While private cloud is the primary type of cloud infrastructure that is in use today, organizations are finding that cloud can no longer be a standalone IT sourcing and consumption model. Enterprises demand greater flexibility and scalability, leading them to invest in hybrid cloud models, which supply them with a seamless application, data, and management environment across all of their IT resources. IDC expects that the percentage of users who adopt private or public cloud models will diminish over the next several years, as enterprises increasingly choose to implement a hybrid cloud model.

Modern solutions like CA PPM continue to raise the bar above last-generation IT demand management tools, continuously providing new features to ease the burden of the PMO, the financial manager, the resource manager and the product manager. In the last few years, new vendors looking to exploit the large and increasingly influential project and portfolio management (PPM) market have developed modules that “snap” into their SaaS platforms. These vendors claim their tools are easy to install, easy to manage and save customers money. It sounds too good to be true. And for most organizations, it is. Carefully consider whether you need a PPM solution that is only capable of providing low-level functionality for the project manager, or if your organization could benefit from PPM technology that provides 360-degree optics across your organization, delivers actionable business intelligence and enables extensive modeling and forecasting capabilities to make data-driven business decisions.
