When determining which investments to make in their technology infrastructure, organizations will often choose to make no changes at all. While this decision avoids short-term costs and business disruption, it often simply delays the inevitable—even making it worse. The cost of doing nothing is expensive in the long term. This report—from the independent researchers at Aberdeen Group—outlines the reasons distributors choose not to upgrade enterprise resource planning (ERP) software and cautions against this approach, supplying detailed research that illustrates the benefits of keeping your systems current. Download this report to learn how a new or improved ERP system can help get you the information you need to make informed decisions and act more efficiently, improving overall company performance.

No matter your line of business, technology implemented four years ago is likely near its end of life and may be underperforming as more users and more strenuous workloads stretch your resources thin. Adding memory and upgrading processors won't provide the same benefits to your infrastructure as a consolidation and upgrade can. Read this research report to learn how upgrading to Dell's PowerEdge VRTX with Hyper-V virtualization, Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2, and Microsoft SQL Server 2014 could reduce costs while delivering better performance than trying to maintain aging hardware and software.

Every few years a technology comes along that evolves the current approach to become more efficient and cost effective. Software-defined wide-area networking (SD-WAN) connects locations in a revolutionary way, but many “facts” about SD-WAN are more fantasy than reality. Read “5 Myths About Enterprise SD-WAN” for clarity around the advantages and limitations of SD-WAN and how Forcepoint helps with its implementation. For anyone that has ever had to worry about connecting a distributed network, software-defined wide-area networking (SD-WAN) is a big deal. It’s a drastic upgrade to the status quo, efficiently connecting locations with existing network technology like commodity broadband and virtual private networks (VPNs).

If you’re in the middle of a finance transformation initiative, then you’re not alone. Leaders at enterprise and mid-size finance and accounting organizations alike are reviewing their current processes, technology, and talent, to build their blueprints for change. With the rise of broader digital transformation projects, finance organizations are first looking to upgrade their own operating models. The truth is that finance transformation is a journey, not a destination. Many finance organizations have already embarked on it, driving down costs, whether through enhancing shared services centers, or applying more centralization, standardization, and automation. Yet for many, the greater opportunities lie ahead: providing better insight to the broader organization, shedding low-value workloads that hold the team back, and revamping ingrained legacy accounting tasks that create risk. Wherever you are today, there are real opportunities to move the dial away from the status quo.

In 2013, Bon Ton Stores invested in upgrading IT, continuing to update and expand its eCommerce sites, and launching a new mobile site supporting delivery of promotions and online purchasing. A central aspect of this technology upgrade involved the replacement of an x86 server environment, supporting eCommerce with ten IBM® PowerLinux™ 7R2 servers and IBM PowerVM® running IBM WebSphere® Commerce on SUSE Linux operating systems. This case study highlights of some of the key aspects of this significant migration and its results, including how Bon-Ton IT executives support the business and what they prioritize, why they decided to make this move, what performance and capability resulted, and how it affected full data center costs and business resilience.

Every data center IT manager must constantly deal with certain practical constraints such as time, complexity, reliability, maintainability, space, compatibility, and money. The challenge is that business application demands on computing technology often don’t cooperate with these constraints. A day is lost due to a software incompatibility introduced during an upgrade, hours are lost tracing cables to see where they go, money is spent replacing an unexpected hardware failure, and so on. Day in and day out, these sorts of interruptions burden data center productivity. Sometimes, it’s possible to temporarily improve the situation by upgrading to newer technology. Faster network bandwidth and storage media can reduce the time it takes to make backups. Faster processors — with multiple cores and larger memory address space — make it possible to practically manage virtual machines.

As virtualization technology evolves and improves, the server performance and power requirements for supporting a virtualized data center increase. Your aging servers are struggling to meet increasing virtual workload demands. These older, lower-performing servers further tax your data center by consuming valuable space and power. You want to update, upgrade, and consolidate to a powerful new server solution that will provide an excellent virtualization platform. In this white paper, you’ll learn how the NEC Express5800/A2040b enterprise server, powered by the Intel® Xeon® processor E7-4890 v2, offers just that.
