The ongoing adoption of cloud computing by communications service providers (CSPs) continues to fundamentally reshape their business models and technology strategies on several levels. One such area that is garnering significant attention is the impact of the cloud on security services. This is because security services and the vital tools they encompass can be empowered through the adoption of a carrier cloud model. This, in turn, better positions CSPs to meet the demands of their customers, including those in the small to medium-size business (SMB) market segment. The timing of this migration is optimal, since many SMBs now recognize the threats they face and realize that given their limited IT budgets and lack of security expertise, CSPs are well positioned to protect them from cyberattacks. While the opportunity for CSPs is significant, many are hesitant to make a move in this area because they want to ensure they can address SMBs’ needs and maintain control of the service in a car

In a relatively short time, cloud computing, specifically Infrastructure-as a-Service, has shifted from a new but unproven approach to an accepted, even inevitable, model. Driven by flexibility and efficiency, the question facing most organizations is not whether the cloud is part of their infrastructure plans, but which applications and workloads to move to the cloud and when. But even as the benefits of cloud and hosted models have become apparent, concerns persist about security, and an assumption lingers that the cloud is inherently less secure than an enterprise data center environment.

In this era of cloud computing, mobile devices, and the Internet of Things (IoT), firms are testing new product offerings that combine elements of content, software, services, and hardware together. Like the innovative products themselves, the rulebook on monetizing them is evolving. Firms are shifting from one-time perpetual sales or fixed monthly subscriptions to consumption models that blend onetime, subscription, and usage-based billing (see Figure 1). CEOs recognize this shift toward business models that reflect the value of the relationship with the customer. The move to subscription and consumption business models is pervasive in almost every industry. From retailers selling subscription box sets to industrial equipment manufacturers charging based on consumption, the increase in experimentation of alternative business models is extraordinary (see Figure 2). While B2C disrupters like Netflix and Zipcar have gotten more media attention, the growth of subscription billing plat

Cloud technology is quickly becoming the default at companies of all sizes. Nine out of ten companies have already moved at least some of their applications or computing infrastructure to the cloud or plan to do so in the next 12 months. IT spending reflects this trend, with the average investment in cloud rising nearly 36% from two years ago. What’s more, cloud adoption isg rowing across all delivery models, with examples of every kind of application and workload on every kind of platform, according to a recent IDG survey. The survey results represent the practices and opinions of 550 IT decision-makers whose organizations have either already adopted cloud technology or plan to do so within the next three years.

In areas such as sales force automation and customer relationship management, cloud-based computing services have become the norm—and substantially improved the economics, capabilities, and effciencies customers have realized. Today, organizations can enjoy similarly substantial benefits by migrating their IT service management functions to a Software-as-a-Service model. This paper shows how CA Cloud Service Management enables organizations to make the most of this opportunity by providing a service management solution with a breakthrough in time.

Cloud computing is increasingly being adopted as a way for IT organizations to decrease costs, improve efficiency, and enhance business agility. NetApp has been helping companies succeed in cloud deployment to achieve tangible results since long before the term cloud entered the popular lexicon. NetApp has the people, technologies, and partnerships in place to help organizations evolve existing IT infrastructure into an efficient cloud-based service delivery model. The NetApp® Unified Storage Architecture and clustered Data ONTAP® operating system integrate all storage capabilities into a single, easy-to-use platform. By choosing NetApp when making the transition to a private cloud or a hybrid cloud, organizations will be able to meet their storage business needs now and in the future.

As IT advances, organizations are adopting infrastructures that enhance agility and improve efficiency. Data centers are evolving to a state that is almost unrecognizable from only a few years ago. Numerous forces, such as cloud computing and powerful orchestration solutions, are combining to fundamentally change data centers, making them more powerful, sophisticated, flexible and efficient. Many organizations are adopting a hybrid infrastructure data center model that combines a variety of technologies and methodologies, including virtualization, private clouds and other internal IT resources, along with external options such as hosting, colocation, Software as a Service (SaaS) applications and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) offerings.

The technology that powers organizations has undergone several major transitions since the birth of computing. In the 1960s, the mainframe was the dominant compute model, and it gave way to minicomputing about a decade later. In the 1990s, businesses eventually shifted to PC-based computing in the client/server era. This model was eventually supplanted by Internet computing as the dominant compute model. Today, the technology industry finds itself in the midst of the most significant transition ever: the shift to mobile computing.

The four pillars of computing — cloud, mobility, social, and analytics — are driving new levels of network innovation in datacenter networks. These forces are now buffeting the datacenter along with virtualization and the Internet of Things (IoT), resulting in sweeping changes in traffic patterns that expose the limitations of traditional networks and their operational models. To become a resource rather than a bottleneck to overall datacenter performance, the network must deliver not just exceptional performance and scalability but also unprecedented automation and orchestration that can yield agility, flexibility, and service velocity. This Technology Spotlight examines these key trends and discusses the role that Cisco's Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI) plays in addressing these ongoing challenges for enterprise IT and network managers.

Interest in cloud computing over the last several years has been phenomenal. For cloud providers, public or private, it will transform business and operational processes, streamlining customer on-ramping and time to market, facilitating innovation, providing cost efficiencies, and enabling the ability to scale resources on demand. Cisco's Virtualized Multi-tenant Data Center (VMDC) system defines an end-to-end architecture, which an organization may reference for the migration or build out of virtualized, multi-tenant data centers for new cloud-based service models such as Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS).
