Metal 3D printing is revolutionizing the manufacturing process. Complex shapes, enhanced functional properties and lightweighting are some of the unique benefits delivered by additive manufacturing (AM). While there is plenty of information about printing techniques, materials and hardware, a critical element is rarely mentioned: the need for an integrated software solution for metal additive manufacturing. It takes more than a 3D CAD model and a good printer to get a successful print. Metal AM software handles all preparation and optimization actions that are required for a printed part to meet the desired CAD model specifications. This ebook provides an overview of the preparation and optimization process for AM, explains the importance of software to the profitability of any additive manufacturing business and suggests what to look for when researching AM software solutions.

OAuth is an emerging Web standard for authorizing limited access to applications and data. It is designed so that users can grant restricted access to resources they own—such as pictures residing on a site like Flickr or SmugMug—to a third-party client like a photo printing site. In the past, it was common to ask the user to share their username and password with the client, a deceptively simple request masking unacceptable security risk. In contrast to this, OAuth promotes a least privilege model, allowing a user to grant limited access to their applications and data by issuing a token with limited capability.

Comparisons to the invention of the printing press and Gutenberg’s Bible might be slightly exaggerated—but only slightly. The era of the Internet of Everything (IoE) is upon us and IoE will inevitably change the way companies operate. But too much of the discussion about IoE glosses over the skills and capabilities required of data engineering.

Life science companies are experiencing a significant transformation in how they bring new products to market. Organizations must adapt to changes in the marketplace, such as global product commercialization, specialized medicine, new regulations, new payment models, and new technology that are driving more product variety, smaller drug volumes, and shorter product life cycles. To meet the needs of this new commercial model, life science companies must re-envision the global supply chain and evolve the tools they use to run their business. The supply chain that was designed for launching blockbuster products will not work in the future. Today, the global supply chain relies on a manual, paper-based process centered on printing documents and sending them via overnight mail, fax, or e-mail with scanned attachments. This time-consuming and costly process is errorprone, tedious for customers and team members, and vulnerable to security and compliance risks.

Procurement’s Pesky Paper Problem We know time is precious, so we’ll get right to the point: Paper-based processes are tarnishing your procurement department’s reputation for driving cost savings, improving service, and expediting execution. First, there’s the printing, scanning, faxing, and mailing of documents. Then comes the constant tracking down of physical signatures for everything from statements of work to supplier contracts. Add in the manual filing, searching, and retrieving of hard copies, and it’s no wonder that inefficiency abounds.
