Lithium-ion battery prices have decreased over the years and are now becoming a viable option for UPS applications. This paper provides a brief overview of li-ion batteries in comparison to VRLA batteries for singlephase UPS applications. A 10-year total cost of ownership (TCO) analysis is also provided showing li-ion is 53% less than VRLA despite their capital cost premium. A sensitivity analysis reveals the TCO drivers.

Software-defined architectures have transformed enterprises seeking to become application-centric, with many modern data centers now running a combination of cloud-native applications based on microservices architectures alongside traditional applications. With application owners seeking publiccloud- like simplicity and flexibility in their own data centers, IT teams are under pressure to deliver services and resolve application issues quickly, while simultaneously reducing provisioning time for new applications and lowering costs for application services.

Software-defined architectures have transformed enterprises to become more application-centric. With application owners seeking public-cloud-like simplicity and flexibility in their own data centers, IT teams are under pressure to reduce wait times to provision applications. Legacy load balancing solutions force network architects and administrators to purchase new hardware, manually configure virtual services, and inefficiently overprovision these appliances. Simultaneously, new infrastructure choices are also enabling IT teams to re-architect applications into autonomous microservices from monolithic or n-tier constructs. These transformations are forcing organizations to rethink load balancing strategies and application delivery controllers (ADCs) in their infrastructure.

CA Live API Creator creates application back-ends exposing enterprise-class REST/JSON APIs, including access to existing data and applications. It enables developers to create new REST endpoints that join data across diverse data sources using a point–and–click approach. API owners can extend the API with declarative business rules, JavaScript event processing, role-based security and interactive testing. The CA Live API Creator Reactive Logic model yields systems that are highly scalable and reliable. Its optimized services run more efficiently and with less fragility than services manually coded by skilled developers and architects.

Our client is a very well-known, long-established bank with over 13 million customers across the globe. Over the years, they had built up a large and complex technological legacy. The landscape included over 1,000 different applications residing on a complex architecture and a hybrid mix of technology, which made testing the non-production environment an increasingly difficult task for quality assurance (QA) teams. Testing environments were fragmented, and this was compounded by a lack of ownership, governance processes, and communication regarding the status of environment readiness; causing delays, extending time to market, and increasing cost.

Another must have feature of any modern Availability solution is self-service restore. Self-service restore is essentially a delegation, or granting the task of restoring files within the guest OS to users that have administrative rights. In many organizations, there are users who are responsible for the applications running within the VMs. These application owners are the primary administrators for the files and folders within the VM — so why would they have to go to a backup administrator to simply restore a file? Self-service restore allows these applications owners to log into a portal, search through the content of the backups for their VMs only and perform any necessary restores of those files back to their original or new locations.

The Cloud, once a radical idea in IT, is now mainstream. Whether it’s email, backup or file sharing, most consumers probably use a cloud service or two. Similarly, most IT professionals are familiar with cloud service providers such as Amazon, Google and Microsoft Azure, and many companies have moved at least some of their information technology processes into the cloud. In fact, the cloud has become so popular it’s easy to assume that running IT applications on-premises is not cost competitive with a cloud based service. In this report Evaluator Group will test the validity of that assumption with a TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) model analyzing a hyperconverged appliance solution from HPE and a comparable cloud service from Amazon Web Services (AWS).

In this ebook, we dive into how identity management streamlines access to the cloud while protecting corporate data. The location of many resources is changing to the cloud, yet companies still need central management of those resources. Trying to maintain security and order in a chaotic free-for-all use of cloud apps and bring-your-own-device culture is like a black hole sucking in IT’s time—time they could be dedicating to other projects. OneLogin’s cloud identity management platform spans the entire application portfolio with secure single sign-on (SSO), multi-factor authentication (MFA), user provisioning, integration with common directory infrastructures such as Active Directory (AD), Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP), and various cloud directories, and more. We recommend the following: • IT departments leverage OneLogin for all their identity management needs • IT departments educate users about security and safe sharing • App owners enable Security Assertion M

OTS' experiences with all-flash technology mirror what many customers have experienced over the past several years. Hesitatingly optimistic, OTS deployed its first AFA in a limited environment to prove the system out, and when it performed and/or exceeded the company's expectations, it quickly started moving more workloads to it over time. Like OTS, many customers do not immediately retire their legacy storage, but in moving the more demanding workloads off of their existing environments, they provide better application performance both for those applications on the AFA and for those that stay on the legacy storage. And like OTS, the majority of AFA customers have in the past year in particular come to the conclusion that all-flash technology is the future of primary storage for performance, reliability, ease of management and expansion, and economic (as measured by total cost of ownership) reasons.

Organizations undergoing digital transformations are dealing with amplified concerns around risk and security, which isn’t surprising. Ensuring visibility and accountability for compliance, security and governance while enabling flexibility for digital transformation requires a fresh and more tightly aligned approach to who—and now what in the form of applications, services, machines and things—are given the keys to the kingdom: privileged access. Read this white paper to understand how the digital transformation journey requires thinking through a clear roadmap that spans multiple years, anticipating near- and long-term requirements from a privileged access management solution and ensuring scope and scale needs at a reasonable cost of ownership through the entire lifecycle.

The software as a service (SaaS) model of application delivery, more commonly known as ‘cloud deployment’, in which software features are accessed through a Web browser, is an excellent way for manufacturing companies to get the bene?ts of enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems without the need to build additional IT infrastructure. ERP functionality delivered “from the cloud” avoids the complexity and costs that often accompany on premisess ERP implementations, and typically provides a much more favorable total cost of ownership, compared to legacy on premisess deployment. Companies subscribe to the software features that they need and can add new ones as business requirements change, without buying additional servers or storage to support new functionality. The ERP features are the same as for an on premises ERP system, except that it is hosted and maintained on the Cloud provider’s infrastructure.

In addition to high reliability and availability, enterprise mission critical applications, data centers operating 24x7, and data analysis platforms all demand powerful data processing capabilities and stability. The NEC PCIe SSD Appliance for Microsoft® SQL Server® is a best-practice reference architecture for such demanding workloads. It comprises an Express 5800 Scalable Enterprise Server Series with Intel® Xeon® processor E7 v2 family CPUs, high-performance HGST FlashMAX II PCIe server-mounted flash storage, and Microsoft® SQL Server® 2014. When compared with the previous reference architecture based on a server with the Intel® Xeon® processor E7 family CPUs, benchmark testing demonstrated a performance improvement of up to 173% in logical scan rate in a data warehouse environment. The testing also demonstrated consistently fast and stable performance in online transaction processing (OLTP) that could potentially be encountered.
